FABRICS

Since all of the fabrics we use at Fergus Awning are top quality, solution dyed acrylic canvas made by North American and European manufacturers, you can expect long lasting performance and good looks.  These fabrics are breathable, water repellent and provide up to 98% UV protection from the harmful rays of the sun.  The UV protection is inherent to the fabric and will not be reduced by usage or exposure to the sun.  Lighter colours will repel slightly more heat than darker colours while darker fabrics will provide slightly more UV protection than lighter ones.

With a 5 year warranty against loss of colour or strength from normal exposure to the elements, you can enhance your home and lifestyle with your choice of fabric and style of awning.  To see the range of colours and styles available and to 'try your choice on an awning' click here and visit the Sunbrella Fabric Showroom.

CARE & CLEANING

Awnings are an investment and with a little care and maintenance you can increase the life and good looks of your fabric awning. Fabric that is cleaned regularly is easier and faster to maintain than one that is infrequently cleaned. The most important thing you can do is to prevent dirt from becoming embedded in your fabric. You do not need to remove the fabric from the awning frame. If you notice dirt on your awning, such as pollen, leaves or debris from your roof, use a clean soft household broom to brush it off. Hose your awning off, top and bottom, a couple of times during the season to wash off atmospheric pollutants and to prevent these from building up on the surface of your fabric. It is best to do this on a warm day so your fabric will dry quickly. This is especially important if you have a retractable since the best practice is to roll it up dry.

If you notice dirt or stains that you cannot brush or hose off, try the following:

Use cold to lukewarm water and a mild soap such as ivory snow. Use this solution and a clean, soft brush to gently scrub the area to be cleaned. Rinse this off thoroughly to completely remove the soap and allow to air dry naturally.

When the above method doesn't work on stubborn stains try the following:

Soak the problem area with a solution of NO MORE than ½ cup of bleach and ¼ cup of mild soap such as ivory snow per gallon of cold to lukewarm water. Thoroughly rinse to remove all of the soap. Follow these instructions carefully since excessive soaking in bleach can cause the sewing threads to deteriorate. A thorough cleaning such as the above may remove the water repellency from your fabric. Repellency can be restored by applying or spraying with a silicone based product found at most hardware and home improvement centres.

Always allow your fabric to air dry since they are all made from acrylic fibres which are heat sensitive.
